Carollyn Cecelia Aliphat died June 29 surrounded by family and friends at her home near Devils Lake. She was 65. A longtime resident of Lincoln City, Carollyn was prized as an expert barber and faithful friend.

Carollyn was born December 28, 1949 in San Francisco to Manuel and Barbara Aliphat. At age ten she moved with her mother and six siblings to Orange County where she graduated from high school and later received her license as a hair stylist. She married Timothy Watson in 1969 and bore two sons. The marriage ended amicably three years later and shortly thereafter she married Michael Van Zanten who died tragically in 1976.

Carollyn gave birth to a daughter Mickell in 1977. They moved to Lincoln City in 1992.

Throughout her life, Carollyn remained dedicated to he children and siblings. She plowed through a mountain of paperwork in 2008 to transfer her disabled brother Daniel from a California institution to Oregon where she oversaw the restoration of his health. She later found time for a six-month adventure in Hawaii before returning to her beloved Oregon Coast.

Along the way, she acquired scores of friends who will miss her mane of chestnut hair and outrageous sense of humor forever. Carollyn is survived by her sons Don Watson of Brookings, John Watson of Prescott Valley, Arizona, daughter Mickell Swaine of Henderson, Nevada, and nine grandchildren.
