Clyde George Carrick

Born January 28, 1932 in Boardman, Oregon to Clyde E. Carrick and Viola M. Wilbanks.

Died October 11, 2016 in his sleep at his home in Waldport, Oregon.

Clyde grew up in various places in Oregon, such as Boardman, Vernonia, Trehorn, Chapman, Scappoose and Sweet Home. In 1949, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and became a B-29 bomber mechanic, being discharged in June 1950. In 1951, Clyde married Aileen Skriver. They had a daughter, Cynthia. In 1953, they were divorced.

Clyde met Gerry Lou Parfitt in 1955 and they were married on his birthday in 1956 so he wouldn’t forget his anniversary. Clyde and Gerry had two sons, Clyde O. (1959) and Cord J. (1961), whom he loved very much.

Clyde worked at various jobs in sales and in truck driving, owning his own rig for many years. He was forced to retire early due to various work-related injuries, where he became lifelong learner and loved to work on various projects. Once Gerry retired, they drove to Arizona to spend the winters and became snowbirds. He enjoyed being in the sun, exploring the desert and participating in the various activities of the Nostalgia Car Club of Yuma. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Clyde belonged to the Waldport Moose Lodge #396 for many years. He also loved talking to people and sharing a good story.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde E. and Viola M.; sisters: Francis, Opal, and Margaret. Surviving siblings include brother Larry Carrick of Hermiston; sisters: Barbara Dickason of Dallas, Wanda Gage of Newberg and Ida Mae Thomas of North Branch, Michigan. Surviving children include: Cynthia (Mike) Steele of Newport, Clyde O. (Marie) of Eureka, California, and Cord J. of Waldport. Grandchildren include: Scott Steele (Katie) of Canby, Erica Steele Hall (Kyle) of Shedd, Faith and Sarah Carrick of Eureka, California, Brandon Holmes (Janie) 0f Vancouver WA. and Jason Carrick of Waldport. Great grandchildren include: Liam, Quinn and Kellan Steele of Canby, and Soren Hall of Shedd.

There will be a celebration of life to be held on Saturday November 12th from 12-2 at the Waldport Moose Lodge #396, located at 250 NW John St, with a potluck to be hosted by the Moose Lodge. Clyde did not want a funeral, as his remains were cremated. If you knew Clyde, please come, have some food and share a good story about him.
