John Robert McKean

John R. McKean, 81, beloved husband and father, passed away due to

cancer. John was born in Galesburg, IL to Dr. Samuel H. and Dolores Abrahamson McKean on November 20, 1934.

After WWII, his family moved to Portland, OR, then to Eugene, where he graduated high school. John attended Gonzaga University in Denver, CO for 1 year. He returned to Eugene where he married Dianne Puett and had 3 children, John Jr., Michael and Molly.

On December 16, 1977, John married Roma Gail von Essen. They were married until his passing in Newport OR.

John was the manager in Eugene at Bohemia Lumber Trust plant then transferred to Idaho when the plant sold to Boise Cascade. This is where he met and married Roma, who was the first female manager trainee for Boise Cascade. The family lived in Boise while working as a manager of manufactured homes in Meridian, ID. John became the general manager of Boise Cascade Yard in Payette ID, Midland, TX and Temple TX. They lived in San Diego, CA, before returning to Oregon. He worked at the Oregon Coast Aquarium for several years then became a Newport Police Volunteer and the CASA volunteer.

John is survived by his wife, Roma Gail and three children. Sons: John and Mike with wife, Janet and 2 grandchildren; Stefanie and David and daughter, Molly with husband Derek and 2 grandchildren; Kayla and Spencer, adopted daughter, Dominique with husband Ken and granddaughter Mya; along with 5 great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kendall.

There will be a memorial held at the Pacific Homes Beach Club clubhouse, 3339 NE Avery St. Newport OR. on August 27, 2016 at 2:30pm.
