Richard “Dick” Hart, 78, of South Beach, Oregon, passed away on March 9, 2017 of Congestive Heart Failure. Dick was born in Marion, Ohio to parents Ivan and Cleta Hart. He was a graduate of Marion Harding High School, Class of 1956, where he enjoyed sports, especially playing on the baseball team.


Dick went to college at Northern Baptist College in Chicago, Illinois. He met his wife, Judy, their freshman year and they were married in 1959. Dick and Judy graduated together from Northern in 1960 with their B.A. in Religion. Dick continued his education at the California Baptist Theological Seminary in Covina, CA and received his Master of Theology in 1963. Dick was ordained to the Christian Ministry in 1965 at First Baptist Church, Huntington Park, CA where he served as Minister of Christian Education and Youth. In 1966 he became Pastor of First Baptist Church Snohomish, WA and also served as a Chaplin for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Dept. In 1975 he became the Senior Pastor in Olympia, WA and especially enjoyed the times he became, on a rotating basis, Chaplin for the Washington State Legislature. After serving in the Olympia Church, Dick was employed at the Washington State Department of Human Services as an Ombudsman. He became pastor at the First Baptist Church, Puyallup, WA until he retired in 2005.


An avid golfer, Dick enjoyed all sports including his favorite, the Ohio State teams. He was loved and cherished by his family and he returned that love whole heartedly. He is survived by his wife Judy of 57 years and three children: Cindy Lampi (Keith) of Corvallis, OR, Rick Hart (Dawna) of Renton, WA, Steven Hart (Danielle) of Yelm, WA; seven grandchildren: Jason Lampi, Mikali Lampi, Jasmine Pearson (Brandon), Nicole Hart, Zachary Hart, Danae Hart, and Tyler Hart. He is also survived by his sister Marcia Hart Miller (Robert) of Maitland, FL and cousins Shirley Denton Garrison (Jim) of Cardington, OH and Sondra Denton Price of Delaware, OH.


A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Church of the Nazarene in Newport, OR.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial fund for the Youth and Community Center being built by the Nazarene Church in Newport.
