Timothy Matthew Aukett

5/11/1970 – 12/15/16

Tim passed away in South Beach, Oregon, surrounded by family and friends beside him. He was 46.

Tim was born to Dennis Merle and Judith Miyoko Aukett on May 11th, 1970 in Spokane, Washington where he grew up. He almost didn’t come to term and was considered a miracle baby. Although he had a hard life growing up, he always persevered, trying to move on and move through adversity to something better.

He attended West Valley High School and graduated 4th in his class. He earned a BS in chemistry with a minor in physics at Gonzaga University and attended the University of Oregon in Eugene for his graduate studies in chemistry. Tim was hired by HP in Corvallis for 11 years and ended his career as an R&D Research Engineer before being diagnosed with carcinoid cancer.

Tim is survived by his mother’s sister, Georgia Moody, her husband Jim Moody, their three kids, and numerous cousins from the Takatsuka branch of the family. He is also survived by his father’s side of the family; Dan and Vivki Aukett, their kids (Tim’s cousins) Bill Aukett, Deb Thompson, her husband Matt and the Thompson’s children Ben and Grace. Additionally, are Jack and Janet Baldwin, the parents and family that Tim adopted into his life and him into theirs; and Brian Williams, Tim’s brother from another mother, who have known each other since the fifth grade. And 3 beloved cats; Tetra, Zelda, and Sheik.

Tim loved to read and watch science fiction and fantasy books and movies and collected Star Wars and Star Trek memorabilia. He also loved to forage for wild mushrooms; fish for rockfish, ling cod, cabezon, halibut, and shad; dig for clams; and crab. He loved coffee, and good single malt scotch and some of his most favorite foods were pepperoni pizza and sushi.

In his youth he was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He spent several summers as a Camp Commissioner at Camp Cowles on Diamond Lake teaching camp craft, orienteering, pioneering, and astronomy. As part of the Order of the Arrow, he was Lodge Chief, Section Chief, one of the many planners of the 75th Anniversary of the Order, and vigil member.

In 2008, Tim was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Carcinoid Syndrome. Choosing to fight the cancer by entering a clinical trial, Tim’s results helped the trial achieve FDA approval and is now considered standard of care for other patients diagnosed with the same kind of cancer.

In the summer of 2016, the cancer started to catch up with Tim and his body began to break down from combating all of the side effects. In November, he chose to be brave again and enter hospice care.

If you wish, you may make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Tim’s name with the memo “to fight Carcinoid Syndrome.”

He was loved deeply and will be missed. However, he is never gone as long as you remember him.

Services will be held in Corvallis and will be announced at a later date.
