ALFRED (AL) J JONES
August 12, 1926 – April 8, 2018
Al Jones was born in Lenora, Kansas to Harry and Mabel Jones. The family moved to Toledo, Oregon when Al was 10 years old. He graduated from Toledo High School, and then served 2 years in the Navy.
Al was a successful businessman in Toledo. He worked for Dixon Motors before buying into the Crosno & Jones Insurance Agency which he owned for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1986.
He was very active in the community. Al served as chairman of the Port of Toledo and served on the Lincoln County Parks Committee. He was an active member of the Toledo Elks for 68 years, served leadership roles in the Toledo Chamber of Commerce, JC’s and Lions, as well as belonging to the Toledo Eagles and American Legion. Al was also ‘King’ of the Toledo Centennial celebration and Grand Marshal of the Summer Festival parade. He received many honors throughout his life including both Toledo Junior and Senior Citizen.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing but he most enjoyed spending time with his family.
Al is survived by his wife of 71 years, Oleta and children, JAnn Franklin (Jim), Karla Jones, Royce Jones, and Tana Forstrom (Bill), 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Toledo Elks Lodge on May 5, 2018 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Toledo Elks Campground Building Fund.
