Charles “Chuck” Thompson, age 70, died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at his home in Waldport. He had been under hospice care following a recent battle with cancer. His wife, Gerry, and son, Joe, were his constant caregivers during his final days.
The son of a career navy man, Chuck enlisted in 1970, serving on a navy ship during the Vietnam War. Following his tour duty, he was a welder/fabricator by trade, working in the trucking industry prior to retiring and moving to Waldport fifteen years ago. Besides his family, cars, cars, and more cars were his lifetime passion. The local US 101 Car Club and his good buddies, kept this passion in high gear. Gerry, his wife of 31 years, has lost track of the flow of vehicles.
The son of John Charles Thompson and Winifred Hurd Thompson, both deceased, Chuck is survived by his wife, Gerry; son, Joe; daughter, Tina Futrell McLin (Ron) of Ohio; and a granddaughter, Kali. His sister, Janean Thompson, lives in Oregon City.
It was his wish to not have a service, but to be remembered as he was. If desired, contributions in his memory can be made to the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Samaritan Hospice, or a charity of your choosing.
Arrangements are being handled by Affordable Burial and Cremation.
