Al attended OSU and OTI. He became employed by Transamerica Title Company in Beaverton, transferred to Salem and then Newport in 1961 to build a new plant, later becoming branch manager. Active in Newport; he served on the City Council, Planning Commission and was a Jaycee. In 1973, transferred to Lake Oswego; continuing in the title business 25 years. Retired; he returned to Newport. In 2010, became a member of the Newport Police Volunteers. In 2014, they were recognized as Newport’s “Outstanding Volunteers of the Year” and received the Alma B. Howell Award. He was certified for CERTS, volunteered at the PAC and in 2016, earned his Amateur Radio License (HAM) to assist in local emergencies.
Al enjoyed cars, golfing, boating, camping, square dancing and choreographed ballroom; taking their RV to festivals throughout the country. They loved to travel; visiting China, Europe, Caribbean Islands and Hawaii. He liked cruises; his favorite being the Panama Canal. Talented in building and repairing things, he worked on many projects to help his family. We will miss asking for his advice and help!
