Donald V Miles

Don Miles passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis, Oregon surrounded by his family on June 15.
Don was born in Toledo, Oregon on May 26, 1927 to parents, Irene Engel and Columbus Earl Miles. He grew up in the farming community around Siletz, Oregon with his sisters Zelda, Lucy and Lavern as well as his brother, Delmar. Don married the love of his life, Betty Jean Westerberg, on June 30th, 1949. They were happily married for 61 years until her passing in 2010. Don & Betty raised their four children Loretta, Lavon, Randy and Scott in Newport, Oregon.
Unconditional love, hard work and dedication to family were at the heart of everything Don did. Spending time with family and friends, deep-sea fishing and at hunting camp in the fall. He loved spending time with his eight grandchildren; Krista Wiles Moatz (Aaron Moatz), Rodney Olsen, John Wiles (Shannon Wiles), Amy Olsen, Gabe Miles, Jeff Miles, Erin Miles, Max Miles and five great grandchildren; Bailey Olsen-Peck, Nate Moatz, Ricky Wiles, Waylon Wiles and Miles Moatz.
During WWII, Don volunteered and served in the US Navy. Later, he worked in the logging industry around Western Oregon for most of his life. Don had a heart of gold and will be dearly missed. We know he would want us to remember the good times, tell stories and celebrate his life.
Private services are being arranged. Memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Boosters Club in his name.
