The family moved to Sheridan, Oregon where Dave graduated from Sheridan High School.
Later, Dave moved back to San Diego where he worked in a newspaper and print shop. It was there that he decided to join the US Navy and help fight in the Vietnam War. Dave had numerous jobs in Oregon, the last one before he retired was construction and maintenance at Chinook Winds. He lived at the coast for many years near his sister, Kathy and they both helped look after each other. He was a commander of the VFW and a member of the Eagles Lodge at the coast.
