Jean Marilynn Simpson Hollyfield died on July 2, 2016 after a brief hospitalization. She was 93.

Born to Bess and Ed Simpson, Jeanʼs frugal ways learned in the Depression held her in good stead.

Jeanʼs professional love was music. For more than fifty years, she led church choirs as an expression of her faith.

Jean married her high school sweetheart Skip Hollyfield in 1942, prior to Skipʼs WWII service. After Skipʼs post-war recovery from esophageal cancer, he became an esophageal speech therapist. They went around the world sharing their expertise and humanity.

When their two boys, Mark and Craig, married, Jean gained daughters-in-love.

Jean and Skip built four homes, the last for retirement in Seal Rock. Once again she became a choir director. Skip died in 1996. During her time alone she welcomed great-grandchildren. She continued her music, and moved to Sea Aire Assisted Living in 2007. She inspired many by her lively spirit while battling dementia.

She is survived by Mark (Ann), Craig (Nita), granddaughter Autumn, great-grandchildren Demitri and London, “daughters in spirit” Shannon, Fran and Su, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:00pm Saturday, September 17 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Waldport. Church is at Highway 34 and Bay Street in Waldport. Phone is 541-563-2168

In lieu of flowers, Jean would want you to donate to your favorite charity.
