June Margaret McFadden age 97, of Newport, Oregon passed away January 21, 2017. She was born in Seattle, Washington, June 6, 1919 to Oscar and Anna (Mace) Willingham. She was the first born of four children. After graduation from Ballard High School in Seattle, June met and then married Arthur E. McFadden (Art) on June 22, 1939. After the birth of their fourth child in 1950, Art went to work for the Federal Civil Service in Bremerton and this started June’s love for travel. June, Art and family first traveled to Hawaii and Guam in 1951. After several years they moved back to the Seattle area then to Sandlake, OR. then on to Adak, Alaska. After several years in Alaska, they settled in Port Orchard, WA. June went to work for J.C. Penney Co. in Bremerton, retiring after twenty some years. But this did not stop June’s love for travel. June and Art traveled back to Hawaii several times, took several cruise trips to Mexico and tripped back and forth to Arizona, where they had “Snow Bird” property, for several years until Art’s health declined and they moved to Newport, OR in 2001 to be closer to their children. Four years ago June moved to Oceanview Assisted Living where she enjoyed playing Bingo, her morning exercise classes and the bus trips. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. No matter where she was.
June was preceded in death by her husband Art, of 67 years, infant daughter Betty, youngest brother Raymond Willingham; and sister Vera Woolbert.
She is survived by daughters: Carol Mastel of Logsden, OR, and Linda Helgerson (son-in-law Wayne Helgerson) of Siletz, OR; sons: Edward McFadden of Bend, OR., Bruce McFadden of Portland, OR; brother Robert (Luann) Willingham of Monroe, WA; grandchildren: Doug Mastel of Portland, OR, Shelly Helgerson of Lake Oswego, OR, Dyana (Aram) Cohin, Sean McFadden of CA, Harold (Mindy) Kupers III of WA, Robert (Michele) Kupers of Ketchikan, AK; seven great-grandchildren, two step grandchildren: Julie Anderson of Kenniwick, WA, Christopher Helgerson of Sheridan, OR; seven step great-grandchildren and seven great-great step grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
At June’s request no memorial service is planned. A private family gathering has already taken place. Her ashes will be co-mingled with her husband’s and sprinkled someplace in the Olympic Forest in Washington, where they both loved to camp and visit.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Affordable Burial and Cremation.
